Just when you thought that pizza couldn’t get any better in Brisbane, another one bites the crust. Newly-opened Prego Pizzeria in Hamilton is the latest restaurant to grace Brisbane’s Italian food scene and already, fans can’t get enough of their traditional Roman fare.
Picturesque with its relaxed subway-tiled interior and astroturfed front porch, Prego, like its name suggests, truly makes you feel welcome. Greeted by a bright neon sign that glows the words, ‘Do you want a pizza me?,’ guests are invited to relax over wine and smoky saffron arancini balls.
Their menu of Italian comfort food boasts a range of Rosse and Bianche pizzas, antipastos, share platters and salads which will have you shouting Si!
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was the recipe behind Prego’s standout pizzas. Cooked in stone baked ovens imported from Italy, the uniqueness of Prego’s pizzas lies in both their shape and flavour. In keeping with the traditional Roman way of baking dough, the pizzas are rectangle instead of round, and come with classic toppings made with in-house sauces.
Can’t get enough of truffle oil? The Tartufo pizza with porcini, mushroom, and mozzarella’s the one for one for you! Is seafood what you amore? Hello Gamberi! As for the traditional Bergamo flavour with roast potato, rosemary, tallegio, and pancetta? Drool.
Also touching the hearts of Nonna’s all-around Brisbane with just one bite is the restaurant’s Prego Platters. For $40pp, diners can indulge in a variety of fresh mixed salads, slice pizza, and mouth-watering antipasti expertly paired with glasses of Italian wine.
Another highlight of the menu? Their exquisite house-mixed Italian fennel sausage is already a fan-favourite!
If you’re wondering who the masters behind Prego Pizzeria are, look no further than Simon Barakat and Dimity Holland. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the Barakat family not only owned local favourite Gino’s in Hamilton, but Simon is also part owner of another Brisbane Italian favourite – Il Verde! As for the genius behind the food? That would be chef Stefano Bagnoli, who has been busy making pizzas since he was 20 years old.
Moreover, those tighter for time need not fear – Prego’s fresh salads and crispy oven-roasted potatoes taste just as delicious in takeaway form!
Stretchy pants at the ready, everyone wants a pizza this.
