With three Italian Riviera-inspired venues already on site, Brunswick Street’s La Costa has introduced a glamorous addition to their heritage building: The Parlour!
A stylish and moody bar for leisured indulgence, late-night drinks and lingering liaisons, The Parlour is inspired by the notorious Gulf of La Spezia, or the Gulf of Poets…
Icons from art and literature like Ernest Hemingway, Lord Byron and Virginia Woolf cemented the Gulf as a summer holiday destination, making it an inspirational and aspirational hotspot that peaked in the ’50s when creatives flocked to the region seeking summertime decadence and dalliances—a pursuit that continues today!
Drawing on this retro elegance and coastal glamour, The Parlour is fitted out with dim lighting, curved booths, cocktail trolleys, framed vintage photos and marble tiles, all of which create an elegant but exciting setting in which to indulge.
Like upstairs bar Cielo, the cocktail list for The Parlour was devised by the brains behind the world’s number 11 bar, Sydney’s Maybe Sammy. Broken into Signatures and literature-inspired Classic twists, the cocktails are built around theatrical presentation including magic tricks, multi-sensory elements, and a hefty dose of vintage style.
The Signatures menu includes the fragrant Fenhurst with Tanqueray No. 10, Massenez Crème De Pêche, Lillet Rouge, citrus, coconut and a citrus bubble, while the Classic twists list includes The Tilted World with Johnnie Walker Black, Domaine De Canton ginger liqueur, citrus, egg white, pear and spiced red wine ice. A range of premium wines, beers and spirits is also on offer.
To accompany the drinks, a tempting menu of cicchetti is available until late and includes the likes of beef carpaccio with parmesan, pine nuts and truffle oil, daily arancini specials, and cheese and charcuterie boards.
Open Wednesday-Sunday nights (with DJs setting up on Saturdays), The Parlour is the perfect addition to the Valley’s bar scene—one where you’re invited to escape to the Ligurian coast, and maybe even experience a little bit of la dolce vita…
