WHY did the crowd cross the road? If you’re standing on James Street, there’s a clear response: to indulge in the mouth-watering new offerings at Flippin’ the Bird, Brisbane’s newest dining craze.

Set on 49 James Street, the shipping-container-turned-restaurant’s concept was hatched to appeal to lovers of all things chicken. Flippin’ the Bird’s design lies in its masterful selection of deep-fried, air-fried, and pulled chicken.

Scheduled to launch in mid-August, diners will flock to the shipping container for crispy pieces of fried chicken, tender burgers, salads and sides, with the vibrantly creative recipes crafted by chef Shaun Hyland.

‘We’re ready and raring to flip Brisbane dining on its head. Our shipping container design keeps up with the hustle-and-bustle atmosphere of James Street. This is fast-paced food you’d cross the road for,’ Hyland says.

Flippin’ the Bird’s signature creation is the shipping container’s unique chicken tacos. Topped in your choice of tender pulled or crispy chicken and layered with house-made slaw and flavoursome chimmi churri, Flippin’ the Bird presents an exciting new opportunity for on-the-go Valley diners.

Though the full menu is set to launch on opening day, a number of selections debuted at this year’s Teneriffe Festival. Crowds indulged in over 217kg of chicken at the single-day pop-up stall.

From juicy burgers topped in smoked paprika aioli to salads layered with crispy bacon, lettuce, walnuts, parsley, and house dressing, Flippin’ the Bird offers a stirring new take on James Street dining.
