Brisbane gelato maestros La Macelleria are thrilled to announce the arrival of their new venue in King Street, Bowen Hills. With doors quietly opening Monday, March 11, a decadent weekend of celebrations is in store for gelato lovers this March 16 and 17 with $1 scoops and three exclusive new flavours to devour!
Legendary for creating authentic Italian gelato and granita, La Macelleria will debut exclusive flavours for the King Street launch weekend including ruby chocolate (a collaboration with New Farm Confectionary), refreshingly dairy-free earl grey and yuzu sorbet, and a vegan oat and chai gelato. Joining their much-loved artisan flavours, visitors can expect to taste a new special flavour every week.
Sweet tooths and ice cream fiends should mark their calendars for Saturday March 16, with the King Street store offering delicious deals throughout the day, including $1 gelato from 4-6pm, $2 coffees from 12-2pm, and $3 gelato shakes from 6-8pm.
The luck of the Irish meets Bologna’s best on Sunday March 17. To coincide with St Patrick’s Day, the La Macelleria team will whip up a special ‘beermisu’ – a beer-based take on the classic dessert from owner Matteo Zini’s homeland, made with beer from local brewery Green Beacon.
Bringing a special touch of Italy to Bowen Hills, the King Street store will feature a replica of the original neon sign from Matteo’s first gelato store in Bologna.
“I first opened La Macelleria in in my home city of Bologna in 2012 – the true world capital of gelato. When we arrived and saw that the previous tenant had left his classic sign, we knew we had to keep it!” says Matteo.
“La Macelleria actually means “the butcher” in Italian, but even though we were doing gelato we decided to keep that piece of history going in the name – and it’s stuck! Now, we bring that history and Italian heart to King Street.”
Bringing their strong Italian roots to the venue, members of New Italian Generation soccer team will be scooping gelato for visitors this Saturday from 2-3pm.
Joining a diverse selection of irresistible food and lifestyle retailers in the precinct, La Macelleria’s blend of classic Italian flavours and cutting-edge combinations will be right at home on King Street.
