Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen Has Arrived

Welcome home, Newstead. It’s time to wave off the days of impersonal service, stuffy atmospheres, and overpriced menus. Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen is now open, opening doors to a space that locals can call their own.

Like a friend you haven’t seen in a while, Mrs Brown’s is quickly familiar, embracing you to sip, sample and savour fare made by locals, for locals. As friends mingle for nights of frosty beers and social chatter, Mrs Brown’s menu mingles with existing local eateries, bringing together Newstead’s favourite flavours for delivery to your table.

Owners Tarryn and Ben Brown stand at the helm, drawing experiences from Ben’s involvement in establishing and running Eagle Street’s popular Aquila Caffe Bar. The pair describes Mrs Brown’s as ‘dining at a mate’s place,’ combining home-style plates with a vibrant communal atmosphere.

‘The highlight of most people’s week is spending time with friends – and plenty of delicious food, of course,’ says Ben. ‘We’ve created a space for that experience, where it’s comfortable, personal, and doesn’t cost a fortune. Just honest, wholesome food.’

Comfort echoes throughout the space, beckoning diners in with brick walls, timber floors and plush leather seats. A white marble bar and walls decked in greenery will form the backdrop to afternoons and nights out for Brisbane diners.

Mrs Brown’s offers a hunger fix for every appetite, from one-handed bar snacks to all-out share plates. Designed by Adam Marino (previously of LONgTIME and Spirit House) and wielded by Head Chef Andrew Toms, creative dishes are paired with wine from the barrel, 24 taps of beer, and an extensive range of gins, whiskeys and spirits.

After-work bites include roasted pork, kimchi and lime salsa paratha-bread tacos, lamb pancakes dressed in Middle Eastern spices, and chicken and cheese spring rolls. For more substantial gatherings, tables can pass around dishes of slow braised lamb shoulder with thyme, roast chickens straight from the rotisserie, and crispy-skinned pork belly pieces teamed with salads and shared sides.

The Newstead community has more than a place at the table, too, with local small businesses earning a place on Mrs Brown’s menu. Diners can place an order for wood-fired pizzas made fresh from Gianni’s Kitchen across the road, or indulgent desserts handmade by La Macelleria Gelato.

As other venues move from ‘comfort’ to ‘convenient’, Brisbane diners will find their new home at Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen.
