Prepare to escape the daily grind and get highly caffeinated at Brisbane’s inaugural Specialty Coffee Festival. The day will be a buzz – from Queensland AeroPress Championships, Food Trucks, visiting Coffee Producer, delicious Specialty Coffee pouring all day and a Specialty Laneway dedicated to coffee-based desserts, savouries and equipment – September 2 is set to keep the Brisbane coffee community sipping from 9am to 7pm.
The team behind Wolff Coffee Roasters is making Brisbane’s Specialty Festival possible, right from their awesome Roasting Warehouse in Hendra. Originally being hosts to the AeroPress Championship alone, the Wolff Pack decided that dedicating the entire day to a celebration of coffee community locally and globally would excite Brisbane’s coffee enthusiasts and addicts alike. The AeroPress Championships starting at 3pm, will showcase 40 budding baristas within the Specialty Coffee Industry gathering to focus on what really matters – the taste of coffee itself. The AeroPress Championships will cost $10 for interested spectators to enter at 3pm. Relax and enjoy a espresso martini while the professionals battle it out for the title of Qld Champion.
Festivalgoers will be fortunate to meet coffee farmer, Alejo Castro of Volcán Azul, Costa Rica. Travelling from Costa Rica just for this event, Alejo will be providing customers with an authentic look into the world of where their beans come from. Alejo will continue his coffee-based endeavours with a schedule packed full of free cupping forums, free roastery tours, free roasting demos, and a not-to-be-missed roasting experience delivered by Peter Wolff and Alejo. For every coffee beverage sold at the event, fifty cents from each cup will go to Primary School of San Francisco de Grecia, Costa Rica. With a focus on new school books for the young children of Alejo’s hometown. You are also encouraged to directly bring young children’s books for donation and fill out a donation book label.
Furthermore, you can join the fight with the #waronwaste and purchase your own reusable coffee cup from the Specialty Laneway, take it to any of the Specialty Coffee outlets and get yourself a free coffee. With choices from Frank Green, La Bontazza and Keep Cup, there’s a cup to suit everyone’s style. The Specialty Laneway will also feature treats and items that hero coffee in equally delicious and unique ways. Nutri Hitt with raw coffee treats, Toddy with cold brew and equipment, and Mr. Gritster with his amazing coffee BBQ rub.
Even the most passionate coffee lovers need to consume something other than brews at some point, which is where Downey Park food trucks comes in. With food from the likes of Krispy Kreme, Queen of Pops, Wild Rissole, That Greek Truck, Mr. Burger and Dandelion & Driftwood, the festival will become the complete package.
For the perfect pick me up, make sure you visit this year’s inaugural Specialty Coffee Festival.
