Known as a foodie hub that’s helped to launch beloved Brisbane eateries like Pie Town, El Planta, NYC Bagel Deli and Alphabet Cafe, South Brisbane’s Wandering Cooks is launching their inaugural Urban Produce Market on Saturday, August 22.

“We love to support our region’s small growers and producers, so it’s going to be a real treat to host our favourites all at once in the Urban Produce Market every weekend,” says Wandering Cooks’ director, Angela Hirst.

Running from 7 am to 1 pm every Saturday, the Urban Produce Market will host top food products, including artisan pastries and breads from The Bread Social; following recent border closures, this will be Brisbane’s only access to these cult bakery goods from the Tweed Valley!

Farmers supplying the region’s top restaurants will be represented in the Urban Produce Market’s Farm Gate, with Thai Hoa Grocer, Oxley’s Neighbourhood Farm, The Falls Farm, West End neighbour Little Acre Mushrooms and Spring Lakes Farm to name a few. Knowledgeable Wandering Cooks staff will be at the ready to help shoppers devise what to do with some of the more unusual fruits, vegetables and preserves on offer, making this a valuable weekend shopping experience for avid cooks and novices alike.

Equally alluring and exclusive to this market are the zero-waste preserves and ferments orchestrated by Wandering Cooks’ food production manager Nims Zavackas, utilising market produce leftovers and excess backyard and farmer offerings.

It is a Saturday morning, after all, so coffee by Small Batch Roasting will be pouring alongside seasonal juices, and luxurious ready-to-eat offerings like potato hash with slow-roasted hogget, mint jelly, carrot relish and dressed greens.

As with all good markets, the early birds get the best of what’s on offer! To ensure the Urban Produce Market runs smoothly and safely, Wandering Cooks will be requiring shoppers to sign-in, and capacity in the venue will be limited to 100 market-goers at a time.
