So you came to the party on the whole social media strategy thing. You’re posting regularly, you’re analysing your insights to find your best view times… but it feels like no one’s talking back. Where’s the “social” in that?
Just like the other type of “feed”, your social output should be an ongoing, balanced diet. And yes, we mean meat and three veg, not the bottle-of-wine-in-each hand variety – we’re going for longevity here. To stop from dropping dead, make sure your channels are getting a hearty dose of the following:
Personality & Interactivity
This is the “meat” part, so load up. Your audience wants to talk to a person with similar interests (which should be true!) rather than a couple of words on a screen. Type as if you are your target audience, or at least their friend – ask questions, show support for partnering businesses or suppliers, and reply to any comments. Feel free to have fun and add quotes, jokes and memes from time to time, as long as it fits with the voice you want for your customer – no one trusts a split personality.
Stay on topic
People are following you because they’re interested in what you have to say and what you stand for, so don’t go wandering down the goat track when it comes to content. Running out of things to say about your own products and services? Share other images, posts and links that are relevant to your brand and personality. Bonus: it’s a good way to establish you and your business as seriously on the ball.
Promotions
This is why you have a social media strategy in the first place – work in your offerings and why they’re so fab, just don’t overdo it. Otherwise you’ll fall somewhere into the wasteland of junk mail and over-zealous leaflet guys where “unfollow” is the word of the day.
We don’t need no education… wait, yes we do
Even if you’ve got the prettiest Facebook around, people need to understand your business before they’ll buy into it, so dedicate a few posts to brand education. Got a new menu item? Tell us about its origins and influences. Offering a brand new service? Tell us how it works and how it will help us. Make sure we really “get” you or we’ll be getting a different product.
Add in some occasional medicine in the form of paid promotion (ranging anywhere from orange-flavoured multivitamins to steroids depending on your budget) and your social feeds will be in great shape in no time!
If your social media strategy needs a check-up, get in touch with Liquidity today and we’ll get it fighting fit in no time while you focus on running your business.
