Did you know that videos can make your page 50 times more likely to rank in Google’s top 10 search results? There’s statistic numero uno, straight off the bat.

As we’ve explained in the past, search engines are cleverer than you may expect and their complex ranking systems reward web pages for quality. Videos are calculated as being extremely valuable  – they make your page prettier, diverse in content and more sophisticated.

As if the huge boost to SEO wasn’t enough (the easier you are to find, the better your chances of conversion – simple), the following stats provide even more reason to jump on the video bandwagon:

  1. Video increases session times
Videos keep visitors to your site busy for a longer period of time, on average extending the total length of visits by two minutes. As well as spending time watching the video itself, visitors will go searching for things mentioned in the video or dive into links they saw from the corner of their eye while watching.
  2. Videography is more interesting
Did you know that 80% of people would rather watch a video than read text with the exact same content? Give the people what they want.
  3. … and easier to understand
We only retain 10% of what we read, but remember 58% of what we see. Add something to hear and the old short-term memory gets a great boost.
  4. Links Links Links
It’s no secret that people are more likely to share a link to an article that contains images. Same goes for videos – people are 267% more likely to link to a web page with embedded video. Combine it with a good balance of text and images, and that rockets to 567%.
  5. Conversion King
85% of people are more likely to buy a product if they’ve watched a video explaining it. This is why infomercials actually do work – why buy a trusty run-of-the-mill exercise bike when the Danoz Direct guy has detailed every benefit of the Ab King Pro?
If you have an online store, the conversion number jumps up and the customer will be 144% more likely to pop a product in their cart.

Bonus stat: After reading those numbers it can be all too tempting to do all your talking via video, but there can definitely be too much of a good thing in this case. Not only does it make your site slower to load, but for maximum effect videos need to be short and sweet. By 30 seconds in, you’ll have lost over a third of your viewers. By the two minute mark, you’ll have lost 65%
