Gather your #sugarsquad and put on your best stretchy pants – Brisbane’s first festival dedicated to dessert has arrived!
Born out of a love of all things sweet, sticky and chocolate coated, and not a small amount of FOMO for the southern states inclination to throw festivals for everything from Nutella to baked goods, The Sugar Market is here to prove that it’s always a good time for dessert – and not even a name change is going to stop them.
On Saturday 29 October, from 11am-5pm, the Alden Street laneway (behind The Wickham) in Fortitude Valley will be taken over by more sweet treats than have ever been seen in one place, with a decadent line-up of stalls from the best dessert masters in town.
Twenty sugary stalls are confirmed for the festival, including some of Brisbane’s favourite treat makers. Lucid Sweets will be bringing a rainbow of their dainty meringues, Fiori Bakehouse will have an array of miniature boozy cupcakes, and Zoe’s Brownies is set to dish up a chocolate overload with their decadent fudgy squares.
Other pop-ups include Minus 32, who’ll be bringing ice cream cronuts to the mix, Old Style Russian Fudge, Mr Brulee, Southside Bistro and Chokola’j plus plenty more to discover on the day. There will even be raw goodies for a guilt free dessert, with My Plate Clean Treats joining the line up.
Along with sugar-laden stalls (not to mention food vans), the festival will see an array of pop-up bars and acoustic musicians take over the street. Sugar seekers can pair their confections with an ice cold frosé, the hottest drink of summer, or a sweet iced tea from Two Teas.
Bringing the festival to life are major sponsors The Gourmand & Gourmet, Lucid Sweets and The Wickham, with plans to make the festival an annual event.
