Introducing West Village’s soon-to-be hidden gem, Ippin Japanese Dining! Step inside and you’ll quickly forget you are in the heart of the bustling West End. This luxurious and breezy 140-seater, which is set to open in April 2023, will be located on the second floor of the Garden Pavilion and will overlook the lush greenery of the precinct’s infamous open-air space, The Common.
Helmed by restaurateur and co-owner of Sydney’s revered Kuon Omakase, and upcoming Allta and Funda restaurants, Kenny Lee, this new venture and first Brisbane location will offer modern yet classic Japanese offerings served with a side of aesthetically appealing settings. The restaurant will take a minimalist and traditional approach to Japanese decor and expertly crafted with architectural intent that includes hints of timber and brickwork to tie in with the venue’s historic West Village neighbour, Peters ice-cream factory.
What can diners expect from Ippin? While Queensland’s vast and impressive seafood and meat produce will be a focus of the menu, select products will be imported from Japan to ensure dishes are showcasing the finest ingredients. Head chef Tatsuya Miwa and co-owners Helen Lea and Jane Ma have devised both lunch and dinner menus that feature traditional seafood starters and sides with sensational mains including yakitori grill, toothfish, wagyu beef, tempura cuttlefish and one of Kenny’s crowd-favourites, lobster popcorn. A specialised pastry chef is also on board to deliver 2-3 delectable desserts which will be rotational.
Be prepared to watch in awe as the team is also planning tuna showcases where head chef Tatsuya will cut a whole tuna live in-venue and auction off to lucky ticket holders – with plenty of sake in hand, of course.
A selection of top-notch Australian, French and Italian wines will be on offer in addition to sake and a small selection of cocktails and spirits, all chosen to perfectly compliment the food offering.
The secluded and open-air space will also house two private dining spaces that seat 10-12 guests – perfect for local corporates looking for a meeting place or knock-off drink with their team.
Ippin promises to deliver a polished yet relaxed dining experience like no other and right in the heart of West Village. Once the new restaurant opens its doors, its neighbours include Yamas Greek + Drink, Italian Street Kitchen, Cheeky Poké Bar, Harris Farm Markets, Beirut Bazaar, and other independent restaurants and eateries, adding to the culinary diversity that West Village has to offer.
