Following a stunning success in the South Brisbane sector, Bird’s Nest Yakitori & Bar is set to open doors on a second venue in September. Located in the heart of Brisbane’s buzzing Fortitude Valley, Bird’s Nest’s newest venture will offer desirable late night dining opportunities and an unrivalled yakitori experience.

Marie Yokoyama, Bird’s Nest co-owner, said: “Following our success with Bird’s Nest Yakitori in West End we are thrilled to be creating a new izakaya style dining experience in the Fortitude Valley and hope to bring an atmospheric, modern Yakatori restaurant to the community.”

Yokoyama’s esteemed culinary skills have already been established in the South Brisbane location, and will be applying her love of Japanese cuisine to the new position as Executive Chef at Bird’s Nest Yakitori Fortitude Valley. Yokoyama and business partner Emi Kamada’s vision of plating up modern Japanese dishes in a vibrant environment remains unchanged, as do the superstar menu items that have taken Brisbane diners by storm.

With dining spaces in the area – such as The Apo, Heya Bar, and Bakery Lane – hitting the ground running, the focus on Fortitude Valley has transformed from a solely bar-heavy atmosphere to one where couples and small groups can enjoy an intimate restaurant meal. Bird’s Nest hopes to contribute to this environment with its modern menu and engaging dining style.

The art of yakitori acts as the centrepiece of the menu, allowing guests to explore a dining experience currently underexplored in Fortitude Valley. While yakitori is often used to refer to a Japanese style of skewered chicken, Bird’s Nest has expanded this definition to a diverse range of skewers for diners to enjoy. Grilled chicken tenderloins, pork belly with bocconcini and tomato, and shiitake mushroom with ponzo vinegar are just a small selection of the yakitori on offer.

Other dishes have been designed to complement guests’ yakitori experience, with small plates of edamame, spicy pirikara fries, and crispy chicken karaage acting as a tantalising accompaniment to the main event.

Bird’s Nest’s wide selection of beverages will be no less present at the second venue. Guests will be able to complete their Japanese dining experience with an impressive list of imported beers, Sake, and Japanese spirits. In-house Sake sommelier Daiki Wakabayshi has assembled options to match the flavours brought to the table by Yokoyama.

In cooperation with Fortitude Valley’s thoroughfare, Bird’s Nest will be serving food to diners late into the night. As with their South Brisbane venue, the kitchens will be running until 10.30pm at the earliest.
