Brisbane’s first ice cream festival is coming!
I scream, you scream, we all scream – because Brisbane’s first festival dedicated to all things ice cream is coming and it’s going to melt hearts!
Whether you’re a lover of vanilla, you can’t get enough of chocolate, or salted caramel gets your attention every time, get ready to(banana) split and make your way to West End on Saturday 11 March for a festival that can’t be topped, but will definitely involve plenty of toppings.
Presented by up and coming foodie precinct West Village, the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival will be taking over the historic Peters Ice Cream Factory on Boundary Street for a day out dedicated to all things sweet, creamy and frozen. With pop-up stalls from some of Brisbane’s coolest dessert masters, the lick-worthy festival will feature ice cream, gelato, popsicles and everything in between – are you screaming in excitement yet?
Andrew Thompson, Project Director of West Village, sure is, saying, ‘We want to give Brisbane a taste of what’s to come when West Village is complete, and how better to do that than by incorporating some of the space’s iconic heritage for an ice cream festival?’
For the first time since its closure in 1996 after nearly 70 years of production, the Peters Ice Cream Factory will once again be filled with ice cream, only this time, sampling the goods won’t just be accepted, but encouraged.
While the full line-up of stalls is still on ice, the inside scoop is that you’ll be able to get your hands on ice cream filled doughnuts from Minus 32, fruity icy poles from Frozen Sunshine, coffee pops from Queen of Pops and ice cream sandwiches from Boss Bites, along with plenty more, including sweets for vegans and dairy intolerant ice cream lovers! But the biggest scoop of all? Gelato Messina will be popping up at the festival, bringing their wildly creative gelato flavours with them!
Can’t handle dessert without a little something savoury first (or after – no judgement)? Just take a stroll to one of the many eateries in surrounding West End, but be sure to leave plenty of room for the sweet stuff!
It’s not just about the ice cream of course – there’ll also be live music and a pop-up bar featuring boozy frozen treats. But really, when are you going to get a better excuse to eat your weight in gelato?
