Brisbane Times Good Food Month Guide 2015
We’re pretty excited about Good Food Month 2015. Not just because it showcases the best of Brisbane’s burgeoning food and wine scene, but because it means we have an excuse to wine and dine even more than usual.
If you’ve seen the epic lineup of breakfasts, dinners, events and experiences happening from July 9-August 9 this year, you’re no doubt overwhelmed by choices. So we’ve put together a handy list of our top picks to help you out.
Young Chefs’ Dinner | July 14 | Aria | $150
Six up and coming young chefs will be showing off their skills at Aria with a six course collaborative dinner. You’ll get to find out what the next generation of culinary masters has to offer, with young guns from the likes of Gauge, Gerard’s Bistro and Esquire cooking up a storm.
Night Noodle Markets | July 22-August 2 | South Bank | Free entry
The Night Noodle markets are returning with more gyoza, ramen and dumplings than ever, turning South Bank’s Cultural Forecourt into an outdoor food market for two weeks. You’ll have to stop by more than once to sample eats from all the 30 hawker-style stalls that will be on offer!
Create & Capture | July 30 | The Fox Hotel | $12
We all love to drool over good food photography, so why not do it in style over canapés and bubbles at The Fox Hotel’s Fish Lane Creative Studios. Eye up the works of photographers and bloggers who have captured the passion – and food – of chefs, bartenders and home cooks at work.
Our France | August 1 | Montrachet | $120
You’ve heard of croissants and escargot, now explore some of less typical fare of France at Montrachet, with a five course a la carte dinner of specialties like pressed beef brisket with Emmental soufflé. Plus champagne, of course.
Editor’s Dinner | July 21 | Esq. | CBD | $100
Share a gourmet dinner with the Brisbane Times Good Food Guide and goodfood.com.au editors, indulging in Esq.’s acclaimed fare while you hear stories from the food world. Just hope you’re up to the challenge of dividing your attention between the incredible food and the narration!
Shouk up your breakfast routine | Weekdays | Shouk | $20
Four course international breakfast. Need we say more? Shouk Café will get your morning off to a delicious start with four specials based on traditional Turkish, Yemenite, Eastern European and Israeli breakfast. Good Food Month. Sounds like a good reason to be late to work, right?
Good Dinner under $30 | Nightly | The Spaghetti House Trattoria | $30
An amazing dinner doesn’t need to break the bank, as evidence by all the Good Dinners under $30. At The Spaghetti House, you’ll feast on bruschetta with onion jam and mozzarella, and spaghetti loaded with prawns and crabs.
Chef’s Selection | Nightly | Longtime | $90
Feast on a smorgasbord of Longtime’s signature share plates, with everything from their soft shell crab bao to red curry of duck piled in front of you alongside a coconut cocktail. It’s made to share, but we won’t judge if you keep it all to yourself.
Cider and Slider | Nightly | Next Door Kitchen & Bar | $10
If you’re really feeling the pinch after booking one too many degustation dinners, you can’t go past Next Door’s cider and slider match. Grab a slow-cooked beef brisket slider with tempura shrimp, slaw, haloumi and pickles paired with a glass of cider for just $10.
Duck into The Pineapple Hotel | Daily | The Pineapple Hotel | $25
There’s nothing like good pub food to cure cravings for comfort food, and The Pineapple Hotel’s seared duck breast with confit shallot and baby spinach is far and away above the typical steak and chips. Bonus, you get a beer or wine to help you savour it.
Cocktail and dessert | Nightly | Cowch | $20
Settle in by the fireplace and pair a Sweet White Lady, a cheeky mix of Tanqueray gin, Cointreau, lemon, egg whites and syrup, with a Naked Pop ice cream at Cowch. It’s an after dinner treat worth braving the chill for.
There’s plenty more dishes, events and experiences to choose from if none of our picks take your fancy (or you just want more). You’ll find options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, high tea and events on the Good Food Month website.
