Food Connect’s 10th Birthday ‘Real Food Street Party’
While all channels and front pages are alerting Australians of the Hepatitis A contaminated berries, we’ve been busy alerting Brisbanites of Food Connect, who are ringing in a decade of totally uncontaminated, ecological and fresh produce.
Food Connect was established after founder and ex-farmer Robert Pekin was forced off his dairy farm in 2005. Robert’s vow to create a fairer food industry for all resulted in Food Connect being all about an honest & healthy food culture. So one thing you can count on – their produce certainly hasn’t been shipped from any bacteria-riddled headquarters from far, far away. In fact ,this fresh and flourishing produce won’t have travelled any further than 140km, so you’ll be helping out your fellow local communities and families too.
We’ve been helping Food Connect attract the media’s attention in the lead-up to their 10th birthday event by helping coordinate a bloggers’ breakfast at Merriweather Café, crafting (and pitching) a press release, liaising with journalists and commissioning an event partnership with the Gourmand & Gourmet. So far we’ve secured multiple pieces including the Courier Mail and ABC radio, and there’s more to come!
The “Real Food Street Party” on the 27th of February will be attended by Time Magazine’s ‘World Number 1 Farmer’, Joel Salatin, Costa Georgiadis from ABC Gardening Australia, chef Matt Golinski, and Josue Lopez from GoMA. International biodiversity and sustainability advocates Slow Food Australia will also be tagging along, and bringing with them a slew of Brisbane’s favourite food and drink vendors who all meet their high standards of sustainability. Add food trivia, fruit box relays and local music and you’re in for a lot of fun.
Kicking off at 3pm at the Food Connect homestead on Commerce Street, Salisbury on Friday February 27, the street party is open to all via gold coin donation. Don’t forget to purchase tickets to talk with Joel Salatin and Costa Georgiadis, which are available from Regenag, the farming enterprise behind Salatin’s international tour at www.renenag.com.come.
