Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen owners Ben and Tarryn Brown have been busy converting a pair of WW2-era hangars into a dark, moody and modernised space to bring us their second laid-back venue in the form of Stratton Bar & Kitchen!
Similar to its little sister Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen, this 920-square-metre site will retain its impressive curved roof and include four sections: a 150-seat dining area, central bar area, a function space for up to 150 pax and a covered courtyard that will act as the perfect space for sipping!
Situated next to The Triffid, Stratton promises to deliver a hunger fix for every appetite. Chef Andrew Toms is moving over from Mrs Brown’s to head up the kitchen with the menu set to offer an abundance of different cuisines in the form of home-style share plates and one-handed bar snacks—with a twist, of course!

Must-try menu items include chicken karaage milk buns with Japanese tartare and lemon and potato skins with porcini salt and manchego cheese. For those hosting a more substantial gathering, tables can pass around dishes of sliced roast duck breast with citrus sauce, lemon, turmeric and black pepper salmon and green tea soba noodles with chicken and green miso-all of which can be teamed with a variety of salads and side dishes. Just like its sister establishment, Stratton will also provide a substantial amount of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
An extensive wine list of up to 70 bottles will be available in the 250ml-sized pour that everyone loves, but the real standout will be the new cocktail list that will boast over 40 varieties prepared with their house-made syrups and shrubs.
Stratton promises to provide the locals of Newstead with that home-away-from-home feeling, perfect for grabbing a quick bevvie after work or settling in for a long afternoon or evening filled with wholesome food, sensational sips and great company.
