Petrie Terrace’s modern dining scene will see an extra layer of intrigue added in September this year. On one of Brisbane’s most prominent and high traffic streets, the modern GreenHill Bar will stun diners with contemporary drinks and bar food unlike any other in the distinguished Petrie Terrace precinct.
Co-owner Geordie Smith said, “We want to create a space to showcase unique beverages and quality, interesting bar snacks – our menus and music will change and grow with the crowd to keep each visitors experience unique.”
While fellow co-owner Bernard Puz takes charge of the venue’s intricate shopfitting, Geordie will assume the title of GreenHill’s Executive Chef after over 20 years’ experience in the industry. Most notably, Geordie enjoyed Little Larder’s cult following in New Farm as head chef and owner. GreenHill’s inventive bar and dining menu is well-placed in Geordie’s hands.
Don’t expect to meet your average bar snacks at GreenHill Bar, with a mix of high bars and dining tables instead laden with plates of twice cooked lamb ribs with a potato emulsion and balsamic reduction, baked brie with orange, sage and cranberry molasses, and charred corn on the cob with a crispy pork crumb and spicy buttermilk remoulade. The menu is also expected to grow and adapt around the venue’s fortnightly playlist, which local musician and songwriter Luke Peacock will tailor to the space and its diners.
GreenHill’s beverage list looks just as worthy of conversation as its food, with plans to feature moonshine as an all new, out-of-the-box experience for patrons to experiment with. Along with a line-up of show-stopping craft beers, their drinks will feature a selection of independent wines and spirits. With a concentration on young and emerging producers, the wine list is expected to host approximately 13 different drops, with rotations occurring seasonally and in coordination to food menu changes. You can expect to encounter brands like First Drop along with a smattering of French and Italian imports.
Guests will perch at hightop tables in an industrial setting very much fitted to the urban Petrie Terrace. In order to add a welcoming and comfortable energy to the modern bar, warm tones are introduced with exposed brick and polished concrete.
As the Petrie Terrace scene earns its fame as Brisbane’s hub of youthful energy, vibrant catch-ups, and casual group dining with flair, GreenHill Bar is set to expand the repertoire and test boundaries with an exciting set of new food, drink and music experiences.
History of Petrie Terrace:
GreenHill Bar borrows it’s name from the more illicit side of Brisbane’s history, named after the Green Hill Gaol constructed in1860 by Andrew and John Petrie. The site was Brisbane’s second gaol, housing hundreds of prisoners at a time.
GreenHill Gaol was transformed into a police barracks following construction of the Boggo Road gaol. Later the buildings were split between the police and defence forces. After years of being used as Police barracks the complex was transformed in the 80’s to become an entertainment precinct. The Barracks we know, perched atop Petrie Terrace, were redeveloped in 2008.
