Walk into the centre of West Village’s famous open-air space, The Common, and look up amongst the jungle oasis to find the brand new hidden gem, Ippin Japanese Dining, which opens today! Once you step inside the 140-seater located on the second floor of the South Pavilion, you’ll quickly forget you are in the heart of the bustling West End.
Ippin is helmed by Kenny Lee, restaurateur and owner of Sydney’s revered Kuon Omakase, Allta and Funda restaurants. This new venture and first Brisbane location offers modern yet classic Japanese fare served with a side of aesthetically pleasing surroundings. The restaurant takes a minimalist and traditional approach to Japanese decor and is expertly crafted with architectural intent that includes hints of timber, brickwork and grand windows to tie in with the venue’s historic West Village neighbour, Peters Ice Cream Factory.
What can diners expect from Ippin? Queensland’s vast and impressive seafood and meat produce is certainly a focus for the menu with select products also imported from Japan to ensure dishes are showcasing the finest of ingredients.
In collaboration with head chef Tatsuya Miwa and owners Helen Lea and Jane Ma, Kenny has devised both lunch and dinner menus that feature traditional seafood starters, sides, mains and desserts. With options for 12 or 24 pieces, the sea-to-table sashimi or sushi of the day from the raw bar are simply sensational and the perfect selections for sharing with friends before delving into their more substantial dishes which include toothfish, duck breast, wagyu beef, prawn, coral trout and one of Kenny’s crowd-favourites, popcorn lobster.
A selection of top-notch Australian, French and Italian wines will be on offer in addition to sake and a small selection of cocktails and spirits, all chosen to perfectly complement the food.
The secluded and open-air space houses two private dining spaces that seat 10 to 12 guests – perfect for local corporates looking for a meeting place or knock-off drinks with their team.
From April 12 to 17, guests will indulge in an exclusive $118 chef’s menu featuring incredible produce and the talents of Miwa and his team. The grand opening will take place on April 18 with bookings available for lunch from Friday to Sunday and dinner from Monday to Sunday.
Ippin promises to deliver a polished yet relaxed dining experience like no other right in the heart of West Village. Its neighbours include Yamas Greek + Drink, Italian Street Kitchen, Cheeky Poké Bar, Harris Farm Markets, Beirut Bazaar and other independent restaurants and eateries, adding to the culinary diversity that West Village has to offer.
